After the RenderMan Artist Tools have been
installed,
there are often additional configuration steps required to make the components
ready for production. Also, there are a variety of parameters which can
be tuned to site preferences.
PhotoRealistic RenderMan Configuration
Some of the interesting tunable parameters which affect PhotoRealistic
RenderMan are contained in rendermn.ini
file. As well, nearly all parameters can be directly set in the input
RIB file. Consult the User
Manual for details.
General RAT Configuration
When RAT applications are launched they all follow the same pattern for
loading initialization files. This pattern has been developed to afford
maximum control over initialization options to both site administrators
and individual users. When debugging installation or initialization issues,
you can use a special environment variable, RATDEBUG, provided
for this purpose. When this environment variable exists upon startup, RAT
applications print copious information to the application's standard error
stream. Additional information regarding RAT standards for
application configuration and initialization can be found here.
Alfred Configuration
Alfred is installed as part of the regular RenderMan Artist Tools
installation
process. The default installation should be sufficient to support a single
artist using MTOR, rendering on their own machine. Alfred is also
frequently used to support several artists using several shared rendering
servers. The only configuration step required for using multiple servers
is to add entries for the server hosts to Alfred's default table. When
multiple users will be sharing servers, then a maitre-d host must be chosen
and configured as well.
