SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION
it
is a simple image viewing utility and RenderMan Display Server.
it
reads and writes several of the most common image file formats. Moreover,
when used in conjunction with
sho
(the RenderMan file format conversion utility),
it
can display most common file formats.
In order to display images of arbitrary extent,
it
uses its own image cache. You can configure the size of the image
cache in order to best tune the tradeoff between memory usage and
performance for your system.
it
also implements the following features:
- *
-
interactive panning
- *
-
magnification and minification (zoom in/out from 1 to 16 times)
- *
-
individual channel views
- *
-
onscreen color selection for drag/drop to Combiner and Slim.
When used as a RenderMan Display Server,
it
listens to the
socket
specified in
rendermn.ini
or as designated by the command line option.
To connect to the display server, you can identify "it" as
your display device in the
RIB Display request.
Because the
socket display server
can launch a version of
it,
it may often be the case that you have multiple
it
processes running concurrently. Any process which has been launched
by the socket display server, will automatically exit after a quiescent
period of approximately 10 minutes. At any time, you can cause
it
to exit by using the menu command.
Options
- -portportnum
-
Listen to RenderMan socket dspy protocol on this socket. This
option is used by the socket dspy protocol to launch
it
with the port designated in the file:
$RMANTREE/etc/rendermn.ini.
FILES
- it
-
supports the following image filetypes for reading and writing:
Abekas (YUV), Alias, BMP (24 bit only), PPM, SGI, and TIFF. The
Macintosh PICT file format is also supported for output only.
The
it
configuration and startup files are located in
$RMANTREE/lib/it (if RMANTREE isn't defined, the default
value is /usr/local/prman).
- it.ini
-
the system-wide default settings for preferences and tunable parameters.
This is where you can tune the image cache operating parameters controlling
cache size and location of swap area. You can also specify a list
of standard locations for image browsing.
- rendermn.ini
-
This file is part of the standard RenderMan distribution and is located
at $RMANTREE/etc/rendermn.ini. Values in this file determine the
default framebuffer display server (it should be
socket
), the socket (or port) on which
it
listens, as well as lots of other interesting RenderMan defaults.
- resources
-
this directory contains icons and data used by the program.
- ~/.pixarPrefs/it.prefs
-
This file contains user settable parameters for the
it
display server. This file is overwritten every time the
application is closed. In addition to the listed user preferences,
you can set an option to have
it
open all image windows in a fixed location. This preference is
set by like this:
set userPrefs(itWinGeom) {+32+32},
where the two numbers indicate the
x and y offsets for the image windows to be created.
